Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in overseeing and monitoring the University's financial condition and reporting requirements, including but not limited to monthly management statements, annual financial reports and other recurring and special reporting as needed to ensure that financial information is recorded and reported according to Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, Financial Accounting Standards Board and other, state regulations, and federal regulations, such as Cost Accounting Standards and Uniform Guidance, Cost Principles for Higher Education.

Assists with the oversight of financial and other audits for the university, including negotiation of findings with auditors.

Provides training to other campus units on financial and regulatory requirements, provides assistance with oversight and may provide assistance with coordinating accounting and financial matters and serves as a liaison with AU financial leadership in the absence of the supervisor.

Assists the supervisor with administering and monitoring the university's financial policies and procedures for compliance with all federal, state and regulatory requirements.

Assists in the maintenance of records and the reporting of all public works, including monitoring actual expenditures and reporting and tracking funding issues related to all projects.

Assist with special projects and initiatives at the direction of the supervisor.

Review financial transactions within the department.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP)
Knowledge of accounting regulations issued by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and other relevant state and/or federal regulations
Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices
Knowledge of financial analysis and evaluation techniques
Knowledge of management guidelines and techniques
Analytical and problem solving skills
Interpersonal skills
Public relations skills
Oral and written communication skills
Exceptional mathematical and accounting skills
Ability to coordinate and manage the work of others and multiple activities

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and at least six (6) years of experience in public or managerial accounting. Related education may be substituted for experience. Management/Supervisory experience in accounting is required. CPA preferred.
