JOB SUMMARY:

The SGA Bookkeeper is responsible for working with student leaders in assuring the smooth and customer-oriented operation of the Undergraduate Student Government Association fees. This individual ensures that needs of the undergraduate student body are met through development and implementation of policies and procedures necessary to help create campus community, assist in program development, promote good governance, support student advocacy and to access student activity fee funds.

This position works in conjunction with the budget office in ensuring that allocations and disbursements of activity fees are made in accordance with Adelphi University and the Student Government Association policies. They work closely with University administration to assure smooth functioning of organization activities within the University structure. They report organizational information and provides recommendations to the allocations committee of the Student Government Association.

REPORTS TO: Director, Center for Student Involvement

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Provide ongoing support and advice to the Allocations Committee for the Student Government Association.
  2. Maintains and reconciles the student organization accounts receivable subsidiary ledger and general ledger accounts ensuring integrity and balance. Verifies, allocates, prepares and posts details of financial transactions. Monitors, researches and reconciles accounts for accuracy.
  3. Facilitate training for student organizations on a semester basis regarding budget management and policies.
  4. Review tracking of MyAULife organization accounts for approval and accuracy.
  5. Research and implement best practices for new budget policies and procedures.
  6. Review contracts for compliance with University Guidelines, fiscal controls, and insurance needs.
  7. Assure positive customer service atmosphere at all times.
  8. Oversee management of the administrative budget.
  9. Assure that all paperwork is filed and maintained in an appropriate manner.
  10. Monitors, maintains and reconciles daily cash deposits from the Panthertainment Booth. Compares total on cash register with amount of currency in register to verify balances. Posts data and balances accounts.
  11. Act as the liaison between Center for Student Involvement and Purchasing/Accounts Payable departments.
  12. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

  3. Excellent verbal, written, and financial skills for communication with administration, faculty, campus organizations, auditors, contractors, staff, and customers.

  5. Experience working in a team setting to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  6. Ability to prioritize workload.
  7. Strong computer skills using Microsoft Word, Excel, and email.
  8. Ability to promote high ethical standards and manage multiple tasks.
  9. Ability to interact with a diverse student body.
  10. Good reasoning and sound judgment.
EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's Degree required.
  2. Previous experience working with budgets preferred.
HOURS/RATE OF PAY:

  1. 20 hours a week, schedule is flexible.
  2. $20/hour.
