Faculty Associate, MA Emergency Management

The Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions is seeking part-time, non-tenure track Faculty Associates to teach in our MA in Emergency Management and Homeland Security program. Successful Faculty Associate candidates will serve as lead instructors and teach online courses, prepare course materials, evaluate student work, and assist students.  They may also be assigned one or more Academic Associates to assist with a course. An Academic Associates functions as a co-instructor to the lead faculty member, assisting with the course overall, but having primary responsibility for evaluating student work and assisting students for a defined subset of the overall course roster. In courses where an Academic Associate is present, the Faculty Associate will supervise their work. A Faculty Associate position is a one semester, non-benefits-eligible, fixed-term appointments with no tenure implications, not to exceed .40FTE. The number of courses is contingent upon needs, funding and sufficient enrollment. Salary is based upon qualifications and assigned teaching load. A background check is required prior to employment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field. A masters degree in public administration, public policy, emergency management or related field, plus 5 years experience is required for teaching graduate-level courses
  • Full-time relevant clinical/professional experience
  • Prior teaching and/or training experience
  • Expertise in one or more of the following content areas:
  • Emergency Management, including Incident Management, Mitigation, Preparedness, Recovery, Preparedness
  • Homeland Security, including Homeland Defense, Terrorism, Counterterrorism, Intelligence and Analysis
  • Community Resilience and Sustainability
  • Geospatial Technology
  • Cybersecurity
  • Information Technology related to Emergency Management and/or Homeland Security
  • Public Safety
  • Public Health
  • Logistics or Operations Management
  • Critical Infrastructure Protection
  • Intergovernmental, Cross-sector and Inter-sector Management

Desired Qualifications:

  • Prior higher education teaching experience is preferred
  • PhD degree in emergency management, homeland security, public administration, public policy or related field
  • Experience facilitating student led classroom discussions
  • Evidence of working with a diverse student population
  • Evidence of effective collaboration skills
  • Experience with technology/course management systems; Prior experience with the Blackboard Online Instructional Platform is especially valuable
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
