JOB SUMMARY:

Responsibilities include installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and supporting Adelphi University's computing endpoints and peripherals within the community of campuses. Most duties include, but are not limited to, software installation/updates, hardware configuration/installation, creating endpoint images, integrating endpoints to the network and break/fix level 2 support.

REPORTS TO: Manager of Endpoint Integration

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Resolve hardware and software problems on endpoints running MS Windows, Apple OSX, Chrome OS, Android, iOS.
  2. Image and install new computers into the network for computer labs, faculty, administrative staff, campus events, kiosks, loaners, multi-media and conference rooms.
  3. Migrate software and user data to replace older computers on a replacement schedule.
  4. Trace network runs and patch network cables to pre-configured switches ensuring that they are connected to the correct network segment.
  5. Recommend endpoint specifications for standard computing and specialized needs.
  6. Ensure endpoint security by: physically locking devices where applicable, remediating malware and other infections, making recommendations for ensuring the security of computing endpoints.
  7. Ensure software license compliance of all software installed on university endpoints by keeping track of software license keys, installers and where installed.
  8. Record all work in a timely fashion in our work order system. Update work tickets as work progresses.
  9. Compile and maintain technical documentation of Adelphi's endpoint hardware and software configuration.
  10. Move assets and related equipment across all campuses, documenting inventory updates.
  11. Interact with vendors and other internal University departments. (Repair services, spare parts or contracted maintenance providers, shippers and research new products).
  12. Work closely with the Endpoint Engineers on endpoint Microsoft Active Directory account membership, policies, updates/patches and imaging.
  13. Provide support for printing and scanning,
  14. Work independently to setup and support campus events requiring computing endpoints. This includes; ensuring the relevant software is installed and tested, the required network ports are configured correctly, wiring additional network switches and electrical extensions. All wiring is taped-down to an aesthetically pleasing status. This may include over-time and weekend work.
  15. Maintain printers by clearing jams, diagnosing and resolving other printer problems. Escalate repair or service issues to repair vendor. Recommend printer replacements as necessary.
  16. Maintain a basic set of tools provided by the university. Each technician is also required to carry a two-way radio.
  17. Mentor and train student workers in their professional growth and partners in the workplace.
  18. Make proactive recommendations to resolve recurring problems and customer needs. Keep up to date on emerging technologies and trends that will bring enhancements to the university's IT infrastructure in support of IT's strategic objectives.
  19. Support wired network connectivity to student dormitories.
  20. Proactively check all computer labs and classrooms prior to each semester ensuring all endpoints work correctly, are clean and all wires (electrical and network) are neat and safe.
  21. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to be organized, pay attention to detail and follow instructions.
  2. Applicant must be team oriented, willing to learn, and instruct co-workers.
  3. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  4. Valid New York State Driver license.
  5. Ability to pass proficiency standards exam administered by Adelphi University IT managers.
  6. Excellent communication skills with the ability to instruct users in a concise and timely fashion.
  7. Overtime is required of this position on rare occasions. Notice of such overtime will be given as far in advance as possible.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Ability to move computer hardware such as CPU, monitors, printers etc.
  2. Place and install them to a desktop level.
  3. The navigation of stairs is involved in many repairs, deliveries and installation.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. College degree preferred with 3+ years relevant work experience.
  2. Equivalent training and work experience considered in lieu of college degree. Able to support current Microsoft OS, MS Active Directory Integration, Virtual environments, Mac OS X systems, mobile operating systems. Apple genius experience is a definite plus. Certifications are a plus but not required depending on prior work experience.
  3. Applicants must have a proficiency equal to the certifications listed below: A+, Net+, MCP, ACMT (Apple Certified Mac Tech), ITIL foundation.
