ART (CERAMICS) FULL TIME TENURE TRACK FACULTY

 

 Harper College seeks a dynamic instructor of art for a full-time tenure-track position. Teaching experience should include hand building, wheel throwing, and glazing at multiple levels, and expertise in firing gas and electric kilns, including raku. Additional responsibilities include maintenance and supervision of the ceramics studio and program, including managing the budget, material ordering and inventory of studio materials, equipment maintenance, and overseeing risk management and safety procedures. This position assists with the hiring, training, and overseeing of lab technicians and student aides. The successful candidate will also work cooperatively with non-credit programming at the college.

 

The Art Department is composed of six full-time faculty who teach foundation courses, painting, sculpture, ceramics, digital photography, printmaking, figure drawing, art history, art appreciation, and film appreciation. Our facilities include a ceramics studio with multiple kilns, a sculpture area with wood and metal studios, printmaking facilities, and Mac lab.

 

We are looking for candidates who are committed to teaching art within the community college environment and maintain a safe and thriving ceramic studio program.

 

Requirements: 

  • A Master’s of Fine Arts degree is required.
  • Two years of post-secondary teaching experience required
  • The successful candidate should demonstrate commitment to teaching a diverse student population informed by course-level learning outcomes, and should use instructional strategies appropriate to the community college student and the discipline.
  • Experience teaching in the community college setting while maintaining a professional studio practice and active exhibition record is desired. 
  • Strength in teaching both sculptural and functional ceramics is preferred.
