Simmons University is looking for a Director of Field Education to join the School of Social Work. Reporting to the Director of the School of Social Work, the Director of Field Education will provide administrative oversight of Field Education, including both campus-based and online (SW@S) platforms. From building relationships with community partners to ensuring that field placements meet all accreditation standards, the Director will play a critical role in integrating real-world experiences into the educational foundation of Simmons' MSW students.

The ideal candidate will be student-focused, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. This is a full-time twelve-month administrative position with faculty rank at a level commensurate with a candidate's experience (Associate or Professor of Practice). The Director of Field will serve in a leadership role and is a member of the Director's leadership team.

Simmons School of Social Work (SSW) is distinguished in many ways - with nationally acclaimed faculty, a strong emphasis on clinical practice and an ideal Boston location uniquely situated among world-renowned teaching hospitals and facilities. The hands-on curriculum integrates education and practice with social justice values, multicultural perspectives and fieldwork placements. The SSW offers degrees at the bachelor's, master's and doctoral levels (BSW, MSW, PhD). The MSW degree is offered through both traditional campus-based and innovative online (SW@S) platforms.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leadership and management of all departmental operations including oversight of budget (campus-based only), complex student performance issues, personnel and technology.
  • Ensure integration of MSW field education learning objectives and practice competencies within overall MSW curriculum through close collaboration with MSW Director and all SSW faculty.
  • Initiate, develop and foster new and existing community partnerships to yield new, expanded, and innovative learning opportunities for campus-based and online students.
  • Oversee the recruitment, approval, and assessment of all field placements.
  • Regularly monitor and assess field sites for adherence to CSWE standards for placement, quality of supervision and adherence to the Social Work Code of Ethics.
  • Ensure that student learning is assessed in accordance with CSWE EPAS; collect and collate annual assessment data (achievement of competencies), aggregated by platform, for each year of student field experience.
  • Represent the department in meetings of internal and external constituencies.
  • Serve as the primary editor for The Field Educator, Simmons' premier online journal for Field Education;
  • Other responsibilities as necessary.

    Qualifications

  • Master's in Social Work from a CSWE accredited program. LICSW required;
  • A PhD, DSW, or doctorate in an allied field preferred;
  • A minimum of 8 years post MSW experience in agency social work practice, including field instruction of MSW students;
  • Experience in program administration; additional experience in field education administration preferred; Excellent communication, organizational and multi-tasking skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders; Evidence of strong leadership skills.
  • Proficient in the use of technology (e.g., Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and Alcea or other placement management software)
  • Well organized, with excellent skills in customer service, time and project management, creative problem-solving and innovation;
  • Demonstrated commitment and capacity for building relationships and collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups (student, faculty, staff and community professionals).
