Lecturer Positions in Mathematical Sciences (Job #12705)

 

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University invites applications for up to two full-time, benefits-eligible lecturer positions in mathematics and/or statistics beginning August 16, 2019. Subsequent academic year renewals (Aug. 16 – May 15) are possible contingent upon performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the unit.  

 

Applicants are required to have a Master’s or Ph.D. degree in mathematics or statistics, or a closely related field. Candidates must also have demonstrated potential for excellence in classroom and/or on-line instruction. Preferred qualifications include a documented record of excellence in classroom and/or on-line instruction, as well as demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities. Experience in teaching beginning courses in business mathematics, engineering mathematics and classes designed for secondary teacher preparation in mathematics both in classroom and on-line formats are especially desirable. Instructional responsibilities typically include teaching eight sections of lower division service level mathematics classes per academic year, either in-person, online, or both. In addition to instruction, the successful candidates will be expected to participate in appropriate professional service, which may include course coordination in multi-section classes and curriculum development.

 

The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences currently has 57 full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty members and approximately 55 lecturers, senior lecturers and principal lecturers. The School offers bachelors, masters, and Ph.D. programs in applied mathematics, mathematics, mathematics education, and statistics as well as an undergraduate degree program in actuarial science. The School has a sizable service teaching load that serves all majors on campus. Excellent computing resources are available in the School that include individual faculty workstations as well as access to the University's central computing facilities and the High Performance Computing Initiative. The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences has a strongly interdisciplinary research and instruction profile that includes numerous collaborations inside and outside the university, such as in the social sciences, education, physical sciences, engineering, biological sciences, medicine, and environmental sciences.
