Housekeeping Supervisor II


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Housekeeping Supervisor II.

Primary Job Duties: Supervises complex cleaning activities in assigned areas including washing furnishings, windows, tile, fixtures, equipment and floors; vacuuming, dusting and polishing specified areas and/or furnishings; sanitizing and disinfecting bathroom areas, and the removal/collection of refuse. Determines work priorities, plans, schedules (weekday/weekend), assigns and inspects work. Trains and evaluates assigned personnel. Performs and demonstrates procedures for mixing cleaning solutions according to specifications. Loads and transports service cart with required materials and supplies to designated areas. Ensures adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained in department; initiates and/or prepares all documentation related to purchase transactions, selects vendors, and manages the ordering process. Supervises cleaning activities in food service operations during business operations as well as at the end of operating hours. Supervises the setting up and break down of furniture for building events in areas such as: assembly rooms, meeting rooms, and or dining rooms. Utilize information from reports, work orders, or other means to determine needs, equipment, clarifications, etc. in order to assign/complete set-up. Reviews and evaluates housekeeping and custodial programs and provides advice to management regarding policies.

Minimum Qualifications: Four years' experience in Housekeeping in a lead or supervisory capacity. Valid Non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license, with 5 points or less, is required.

Thorough knowledge of the procedures, equipment and supplies used in housekeeping. Skill in the use and maintenance of housekeeping tools and equipment; in the selection and application of housekeeping chemicals and supplies; in providing guidance and training to others; in overseeing a large housekeeping unit; in selecting applicants for employment. Ability to plan and supervise the work of assigned housekeeping personnel; to estimate supply and equipment needs; to read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations; to operate assigned tools and housekeeping equipment; to work with chemicals and cleaning solutions; to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to lift and transport supplies and refuse; to wear and work in personal protective equipment.

Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma or GED preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, State position with a full benefits package. Starting salary is $34,075 annually, which is approximately $16.34 per hour. The schedule associated with this position is eligible for shift differential of an additional $1.00 per hour. The primary schedule is tentatively M-F 6:00pm-2:30am with occasional weekends required. This position is considered essential and will be called upon to provide emergency coverage when necessary. Work schedule or area may vary based on the needs of the University.
