Assistant Professor Position in Resource, Environm

The School of Sustainability at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of assistant professor in resource, environmental, or energy economics. Anticipated start date: August 2019. In addition to the development of a strong program of research, the position entails teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses; performing departmental/school, university, and professional service; and enhancing the prominence of environmental, resource and energy economics at ASU through engagement in interdisciplinary, sustainability-focused research and education ventures across the campus.

 

Required qualifications: Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in economics or a related field at the time of appointment; demonstrate excellence in research commensurate with appointment at the level of assistant professor including a record of, or potential for, publishing in leading academic journals.

Desired qualifications include (but are neither all required nor limited to) developing, implementing, or evaluating:

  • Compelling vision for continued research
  • Capacity to support research through external grants
  • Excellence in teaching as demonstrated by a minimum of two (2) months of teaching at the university level
  • Experience in conducting solutions-oriented, interdisciplinary research and communicating research to non-specialist audiences
  • A program of internationally-focused research
  • Capacity to deliver on the design aspirations of ASU’s New American University (see http://newamericanuniversity.asu.edu).

 

The School of Sustainability is the first of its kind—a comprehensive degree-granting program with a transdisciplinary focus on finding real-world solutions to environmental, economic, and social sustainability challenges (see http://schoolofsustainability.asu.edu).  Established in 2006, the School is part of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability. Our mission is to educate a new generation of scholars and practitioners and create innovative modes of scholarship by bringing together people from multiple disciplines to develop practical solutions to the most pressing sustainability challenges. The School of Sustainability takes a transdisciplinary approach in its curriculum, addressing a broad spectrum of global challenges, including: 1) energy, materials, and technology; 2) water quality and scarcity; 3) international development; 4) sustainable ecosystems; 5) sustainable urban dynamics; 6) social transformations; 7) food and food system sustainability, and; 8) policy and governance.
