The Department of History at Simmons University seeks an adjunct professor to teach one section of a course on Modern Japanese History during the Spring 2019 semester. The course is scheduled to run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-5:50pm, is capped at 25 students, and is typically taught as a combination of lecture and discussion.

Course Title and Description
HIST201: Dynamics of Japanese History
Examines the rise and fall of imperial Japan (1868-1945) and certain trends since 1945. Considers the history and ideology of a nation that believed in military prowess and authoritarian government as a national honor. Discusses factors that led Japan to this view, its consequences, and Japan's path to postwar democracy and prosperity.

Qualifications:
Candidates should have a Ph.D. (or be an advanced PhD candidate) in History and possess a
commitment to excellence in teaching.
