JOB SUMMARY:

The Deputy to the Provost works closely with the Provost to advance initiatives overseen by the Office of the Provost. The Deputy will work on projects that will include partnering with Chairs, Deans, and members of Executive Leadership. The Deputy will oversee coordinated and consistent communication to the campus community regarding the priorities, initiatives, and issues being considered in the Office of the Provost. In the course of daily duties, the Deputy will be responsible for sensitive and confidential material related to personnel, budget, grievance and legal matters.

REPORTS TO: Provost



RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Develop and implement consistent communications regarding priorities, initiatives, and issues discussed at Provost Staff and Dean Council meetings.
  2. Organize and summarize feedback to the Provost from members of the campus community who wish to share their voices in response to Office of the Provost communications.
  3. Initiate prompt response and follow-up action and communication on behalf of the Provost.
  4. Lead projects, as assigned, by clarifying project objectives, researching relevant background and best practices, identifying and collaborating with appropriate stakeholders, developing and implementing action plans, and communicating results.
  5. Work with members of the Executive Leadership team in a collaborative and supportive manner to move forward Momentum priorities.
  6. Exercise creativity and suggest appropriate changes to office and academic administration procedures in accord with University policies, to achieve more efficient processes and to enhance the Office of the Provost.
  7. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.



REQUIREMENTS:

  1. High Level of organization and attention to detail.
  2. Ability to prioritize workload according to volume, urgency, etc.
  3. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  4. Discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality on a wide range of issues.
  5. Ability to work in a fast paced environment as a member of a supportive team.
  6. Demonstrated skill in effectively interacting with faculty, staff, and students
  7. Disposition that lends itself to collaboration
  8. Knowledge of and respect for shared governance and academic freedom
  9. Knowledge of University policies and procedures
  10. Able to use the University software systems



EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Master's degree required
  2. Ph.D. preferred plus 5 or more years of experience in higher education
