Duties and Responsibilities
Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of English, seeks qualified candidates for an endowed chair position at the rank of Professor, to begin in academic year 2019-2020. The Martin J. Svaglic Professor of Textual Studies is a five-year renewable appointment with tenure in the department. The position includes a dedicated research fund and graduate research assistance, as well as the opportunity to work closely with LUC s interdisciplinary Center for Textual Studies and Digital Humanities.

The English Department serves the University s undergraduate core curriculum and offers undergraduate majors and minors. At the graduate level, the department offers the MA and PhD degrees. The department is among the largest in the College of Arts and Sciences and teaches over 2,600 students in roughly 175 sections each year on LUC s Lake Shore Campus and Water Tower Campus, and at the John Felice Rome Center. This senior-level position involves teaching one course per semester (one of these each year at the graduate, one at the undergraduate level) and taking a leadership role in textual studies, broadly conceived, in the English Department and collaborating with faculty and student researchers in the Center for Textual Studies and Digital Humanities.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a PhD in English and a reputation for outstanding contributions to the field. The incumbent must be an internationally prominent specialist and distinguished scholar in textual studies with experience in applying digital methods to textual problems, as demonstrated by a clear record of excellence in published work and pedagogy.
