Duties and Responsibilities:
Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of Human Resources. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Human Resources Officer with direct reports including the Talent Acquisition Manager, Employee Development and Engagement Specialist, HR Administrator, and HR Generalist/HRIS Specialist.

The Director of Human Resources is responsible for leading efforts to make Auburn University at Montgomery a best place to work by creating human resource strategies that enhance the universities ability to develop and retain a highly motivated, diverse, and engaged work force. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in leading employee relations, workforce planning, change management, and regulatory compliance functions that include but are not limited to Title IX, FMLA, ADA, and EEO/Affirmative Action. The successful candidate also will be experienced at cultivating and maintain relationships with diverse constituents including students, employees, and the community.

Position Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Manage and coordinate the functions and operations of the Office of Human Resources including leadership of direct reports.

• Provide wise counsel to university leadership in a variety of venues to represent the best interests of all constituents being mindful of campus morale and serving as an agent of positive change.

• Assess and diagnose root cause issues and develop relevant solutions to address identified issues, themes and/or gaps, and partner with key resources (internally and externally) to deliver highly effective solutions which directly support and drive necessary business outcomes.

• Be able to understand and leverage a broad range of HR organizational knowledge for action planning, issue prevention, employee engagement and strategic initiative implementation.

• Work closely with the managers/supervisors in handling employee relation issues to include disciplinary actions, performance management, and terminations.

• Develop and implement appropriate strategies for work-related problems that adversely affect morale, health, and productivity and assist with the development and enforcement of University policies, procedures, rules, practices.

• Perform payroll duties using the HRIS system as it pertains to monthly payroll, workers compensation, and H1B/J1 requirements.

• Provide leadership of performance management systems.

• Administer benefits to include insurance, FMLA, salary continuation, retirement, tuition waivers, leave, and other general benefits.

• Provide guidance and recommendations to ensure compliance with all state and federal laws that govern employees and students.

• Coordinate the gathering of the data for the annual Affirmative Action Report.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong knowledge and understanding of HR practices and concepts including talent management/acquisition, organizational effectiveness/development, compensation strategy and design, strategic planning, and employee relations

• Proven track record for inspiring colleagues, ability to cultivate and sustain trust, as well as maintain confidentiality and credibility with faculty, staff, students, colleagues and the community at large

• Applied knowledge of human resource legislation and trends in higher education with the ability to be nimble and flexible with the ability to lead through ambiguity

• Track record of fostering workplace conditions and quality management that supports employee engagement, enhanced work-life harmony and optimum productivity

• Strong leadership skills demonstrated by the ability to influence, persuade, and inspire diverse individuals to support operational and strategic objectives while remaining change resilient

• An entrepreneurial orientation and a willingness to seize organizational development opportunities, linking human resource concepts to business strategy

• Ability to lead and ensure compliance for key regulatory areas including Title IX, FMLA, Affirmative Action, and ADA

• Ability to perform administrative, clerical, and payroll procedures and using programs or systems such as Microsoft Word, Banner, Kronos, and PeopleAdmin

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for the position of Director of Human Resources must have:

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Master's degree and/or SPHR/SHRM-SCP is preferred.

• A minimum of 6 years of human resources experience with direct supervisory and leadership experience. A combination of education and experience will be considered.

• The candidate selected for this position should demonstrate emotional intelligence and the ability to influence while building collaborative partnerships.

• The successful candidate will possess sound judgment and the ability to make independent decisions while working collaboratively in a team-based environment; and the ability to work in a system that emphasizes measurable objectives which include but are not limited to talent acquisition employee engagement, retention, and budget management.

• Experience with Banner, Kronos, and Title IX policies/procedures is preferred.

• The candidate selected for this position should have demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse stakeholders, have evidence of success in cultivating and maintaining collaborative employee relationships and lead practices that cultivate a culture of inclusivity as well as performance excellence.
