JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director for University Advancement (UA) Marketing & Communications oversees and manages internal and external strategic marketing and communications programs and projects that will increase awareness of and private support for Adelphi University. This position assists in developing, supporting, implementing and evaluating marketing initiatives in support of the University's integrated brand strategyspecifically in support of the university's goal to grow private support. This position will develop compelling cases for support; develop marketing and communications strategies for internal and external audiences; and identify targeted opportunities to cultivate pride and motivate investment in Adelphi University. To execute this work, this position will frequently collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including UA staff, University Communications, donors and volunteers.

REPORTS TO: Vice President for University Advancement

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  1. Develop and maintain targeted communications plans for UA designed to inform internal and external audiences and drive philanthropy.
  2. Collaborate and support strategies of fundraising and stewardship teams that increase the effectiveness of their advancement work. Initiate and lead cross-disciplinary efforts with colleagues from UA units.
  3. Act as account services manager for University campuses, colleges, schools, and units to collaborate and support strategies that increase support for University initiatives and campaign priorities.
  4. Drive the development, execution, and/or promotion of gift announcements, case statements and impact stories.
  5. Create compelling and timely content for print and online publications including recognition of significant donors, prospects and volunteers.
  6. Work with UA staff to write alumni profiles, stories, letters, and other donor correspondence.
  7. Write original proposals or edit and customize pre-existing proposals for prospects to include program and/or project budgets and supporting documentation.
  8. Create comprehensive project plans to oversee work from inception to delivery.
  9. Coordinate strategies with members of the senior team in UA and Lead teams across campus to achieve objectives.
  10. Write, edit and evaluate fundraising and other marketing materials, both digital and traditional; act as project manager with content specialists, designers, fundraisers, and event planners to develop both small and large programs to engage supporters.
  11. Stay current with and introduce new marketing tactics when and where they can add value, such as viral marketing, new media, etc.
  12. Analyze the results of identified marketing communication efforts, making recommendations for increased effectiveness.
  13. Oversee qualitative and quantitative research projects required to develop communications plans for the next comprehensive campaign.

  18. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships and actively contributes as a member of working teams to achieve results.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Bachelor's degree is required.
  2. Higher education and fundraising experience is preferred.
  3. Experience with writing/editing within a non-profit setting preferred.
  4. Experience using all major forms of marketing communication vehicles: advertising, electronic new media, web, email, direct mail, events, collateral, etc.
