Duties and Responsibilities:
Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) invites applications and nominations for the position of Executive Director of Development. The successful candidate will report to both the Auburn University at Montgomery Chancellor, and the Office of Development at Auburn University.

The Executive Director of Development is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the AUM Development Office and securing the increased philanthropic support required for Auburn University at Montgomery to advance the Chancellor's vision. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, energetic professional with strong multi-tasking skills and sound judgment who can perform the role of a major gift fundraiser and unit head for Auburn University at Montgomery. The successful candidate also will be skilled at building and maintaining relationships with donors, alumni, and community members. In addition to providing direct supervision of staff within the unit, the executive director will provide oversight of the development budget.

The duties and responsibilities associated with this position are to:

• Provide advice and direction to the Chancellor and Senior Staff regarding development.

• Manage and coordinate the functions and operations of a Development Office that includes supervision of staff and sole budget responsibility.

• Update and inform the Chancellor and other staff of goal status, new plans, and project proposals, and ensure that a cooperative team effort is made to achieve goals and objectives.

• Identify potential prospects for cultivation through research, initial contact ratings, peer reviews, development officer collaboration, and other relevant resources, and conduct follow-up actions.

• Develop authentic relationships with constituents, with a strategic focus on moving prospects along the donor continuum toward major philanthropic investments in advancing AUM's mission.

• Solicit gifts through person-to-person visits.

• Provide stewardship to benefactors, including acknowledging and showing gratitude for and the impact of philanthropic support through strategic, intentional stewardship activities, including letters, phone calls, personal notes, and/or participating in/attending/coordinating events and functions for donors.

• Develop campaigns and/or presentation proposals related to funding priorities in order to keep top prospects informed, interested, and engaged, and to meet development goals and objectives.

• Secure an appropriate level of private support in relationship to goals.

• Produce or assist in producing marketing materials to support development efforts.

• Collaborate with the Office of Alumni Affairs on related projects.

• Other duties as assigned.

Technology skills including word processing, desktop publishing, PowerPoint, Adobe package, etc.
Ability to effectively manage the development budget
Strong time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities concurrently
Commitment to the mission and the long term sustainability of the University

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates for the position of Executive Director of Development must have:

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Master's degree is preferred.

• A minimum of seven (7) years of successful major gift fundraising. Employer may consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience.

• Candidates must have a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection, and a working vehicle. Experience in a college/university setting is preferred.

• Experience managing budgets and in successfully managing a staff.

• The candidate selected for this position should have demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse stakeholders, including alumni; have evidence of success in cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships; and possess superior interpersonal and communications skills, including public speaking and persuasive writing.

• In addition, the successful candidate will possess sound judgment and the ability to make independent decisions while working collaboratively in a team-based environment; and the ability to work in a system that emphasizes measurable objectives which include targets for fundraising goals.

• The ability and willingness to work some weekends, evenings, and to travel.
