University Police Officer II


Salisbury University, a member of the University System of Maryland, is a regionally accredited four-year comprehensive institution offering 62 distinct graduate and undergraduate programs. Located on the historic Eastern Shore, SU's beautiful campus is some 30 miles from the Atlantic beaches and 2.5 hours from Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Salisbury University is seeking qualified applicants for the position of University Police Officer II.

Primary Job Duties: Patrol in the areas of Salisbury University. Has primary and concurrent jurisdiction to preserve law and order. Prevent and discover the commission of crimes, direct traffic, and enforce state and local laws. Perform other related duties as prescribed in the job classification of a University Police Officer II.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Must be MPTC certified and a graduate of an approved police academy. Must possess a valid Maryland non-commercial Class C or equivalent driver's license with 5 or less points for moving violations. Must be at least 21 years of age. Demonstrated knowledge of citizens' rights and responsibilities; of federal, state, and local laws. Evidence of skill in stressful situations imperiling public safety; in operating emergency vehicles under all conditions; in the care and use of firearms, defense tools, and criminal detection devices; in communicating effectively; in operating radios and telephones in a variety of environments; in conducting confidential investigations. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge, experience and reason to arrive at prompt and effective decisions; to show sensitivity in interactions with diverse population; to maintain composure, professionalism and restraint at all times; to perform extensive sitting, driving, standing, walking, climbing, and running; to lift, drag and carry heavy objects; to establish and maintain effective working relationships; to follow oral and written directions; to provide guidance and training to others; to respond to emergency situations requiring physical stamina and force; to enter and exit vehicles frequently and quickly; to work in and wear personal protective equipment; to conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations.

Candidates selected for employment will be subject to pre-employment drug testing and medical examinations to determine ability to perform the job. Additionally, they will be subject to a thorough background check in accordance with Code of Maryland regulations. Employees in this class will also be subject to random drug testing.

This is a full-time, non-exempt, State position with a full benefits package. The starting annual salary is $44,075.00, which is approximately $21.13 per hour. This position is considered Essential Personnel and is therefore expected to report to work in emergency situations such as extreme weather conditions when the campus may be closed. This position is also considered Sensitive Personnel and therefore has a "substantially significant degree of responsibility for the safety of others and there is a potential that impaired performance in this position could result in death of or injury to the employee or others."
