Building Trades Supervisor - Facilities Services

The Building Trades Supervisor coordinates and directs work of subordinate staff in a variety of repairs and maintenance tasks for the campus buildings and grounds.

Select, assign and direct staff for tasks and schedule assignments.

This person will evaluate and verify employees performance by reviewing their completed work orders and their associated techniques. Identify staff development and training needs. Ensure the training is scheduled and completed.

Ensure proper labor relations and conditions of employment. Maintain records and compose correspondence relative to work.

Responsible for requisitions to purchase supplies, material and tools. Estimate the cost of materials needed for pending jobs.

Must be physically able to perform the duties this role requires, including but not limited to: climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling. You may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, dusts, poor ventilation and extreme temperatures.

Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Building Trades Supervisor coordinates and directs work of subordinate staff in a variety of repairs and maintenance for University buildings. This position is considered an essential position as defined in the Tufts University Employee Handbook.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid US Driver s license.
  • Must have at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in trades, preferably in a lead or supervisory capacity. Candidates possessing similar minimum objective qualifications are encouraged to apply and should describe in detail their work experience and education in order to establish the equivalency.
  • Must have working knowledge of computers in a Windows environment.
  • Must have effective oral and written communications skills with the ability to read, write and comprehend the English language.
  • Must be available for on call.
  • Must be physically able to meet all job requirements.
  • Solid time management skills including the ability to multi-task tactfully deal with unforeseen challenges and people and work well in a team setting with other technicians and trades professionals.
  • Must be able to work professionally and tactfully with fellow employees, faculty, students and staff; deal with difficult people and / or stressful scenarios.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance at all times.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (Maximo).
  • Experience in a research or healthcare setting.
  • Experience with BAS systems.


Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Flexibility in work schedule required due to campus related emergencies, events occurring nights and weekends and special events such as matriculation and commencement.
