Assistant Director, Center for Online Learning

Job Summary

Columbus State University is looking for a full-time, 12-month Assistant Director for the Center of Online Learning (COOL). Reporting to the Director of the Center, the Assistant Director assists in supervising full-time staff and student workers and in maintaining the day-to-day operations, to include the coordination of business processes. The selected candidate will support the department by managing specific COOL projects and online learning initiatives; provides direct support to faculty in the design and development of web-enhanced, hybrid, and fully online courses; the use of instructional technologies; and the application of sound pedagogical and instructional design principles, including active learning and other high impact practices.

Columbus State University seeks an Assistant Director that will contribute to the work of the Center of Online Learning by providing some combination of the following areas of expertise: the implementation of multi-media and e-learning development initiatives; the management and review of online courses using Quality Matters standards; LMS administration and management; ADA compliance/accessibility; instructional design; and the assessment and evaluation of online teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: assisting the Director in the management of staff and student employees; coordinating faculty training and professional development through workshops, programming, and on-demand resources; building relationships with other functional units and academic departments to design processes that support faculty and students; managing the implementation of new educational technologies and upgrades to technology, working closely with University Information and Technology Services; contributing to the advancement and support of online teaching and learning through areas of individual expertise; and, as needed, representing the Center on CSU committees and at University System meetings. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, work toward the continuous improvement of online teaching, and engage in practices that support the University's focus on student engagement, active learning, and high-impact practices.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum, Instructional Development, Instructional Technology, or a related field; experience in higher education or other exceptional, related work experience; strong written and oral communication skills; a demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team; the ability to build positive working relationships; and excellent knowledge and skills with computers and other education technologies.

In addition, the selected candidate must have a background that will enable significant contributions to one or more of the following: implementation of multi-media and e-learning development initiatives; management and review of online courses using Quality Matters standards; LMS administration and management; ADA compliance/accessibility; instructional design; and the assessment and evaluation of online teaching and learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include a Doctorate in a related field and a minimum of three years' experience in higher education. Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems, preferably D2L; certification in Quality Matters; online teaching experience; and experience with project management tools and software is also preferred.

Proposed Salary

The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
