Instructor / Lecturer of Exercise Science

Job Summary

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in Columbus State University's College of Education and Health Professions invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Instructor or Lecturer of Exercise Science. The start date for this position is January 1, 2019 or August 1, 2019.

Columbus State University's Exercise Science program has approximately 250 students and offers both B.S. and M.S. degrees in Exercise Science. The program houses a human performance laboratory for teaching and research. The lab, over 1,400 square feet, includes a Parvomedics Metabolic Cart, Bod Pod, multiple BIA devices, Accupower force plate, Lode Excalibur Cycle Ergometer. Brower Timing System, Lactate Scout, Monark Cycle Ergometers, Cholestech LDX, Zephyr BioHarness, LOGIQ e ultrasound, accelerometers/pedometers, and other equipment related to lab experiences (e.g. blood pressure monitors, skinfold calipers, and heart rate monitors).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate courses in exercise science and wellness/fitness; performing service at all levels to support and advance the missions of the department, college, and university; and performing related tasks necessary to ensure excellence in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences and Columbus State University. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration; promote and engage in practices that support the university's focus on student engagement and active learning; work toward continuous improvement of teaching skills; and demonstrate exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and the community of practice.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned Master's degree or higher in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field from a regionally accredited institution; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to work effectively as a team member; the ability to teach a variety of kinesiology-related undergraduate courses in exercise science and wellness/fitness; a commitment to promoting and supporting active learning; the ability to use technology for synchronous and asynchronous instruction; and a commitment to high impact thinking and learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who can begin in January 2019. Preference will also be given to candidates that have the ability to teach courses in exercise/sport nutrition, strength and conditioning related courses, and basic biomechanics; have active participation and certification in pertinent professional organizations (e.g. ACSM or NSCA); and have successful experience teaching at the college level and/or related field experience.
