Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

Reporting to the Executive Director of Financial Management, the Assistant Director for Business and Financial Analysis is responsible for managing the day-to-day financial analysis and reporting functions, primarily for the UMCP Foundation, as well as the budget analysis and reporting management for the Division of University Relations. S/he is responsible for analyzing current business systems and business operations with an eye towards making recommendations for their improvement including enhanced internal controls, reporting capabilities and implementation of those recommendations. The Assistant Director will work closely with the Executive Director of Financial Management to generate management reports and analysis of key institutional performance metrics for the UMCP Foundation and the Division of University Relations. The position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the data represented in the reports that are made accessible by the Office of Financial Management ( OFM ) which requires coordination with several departmental managers and multiple database systems.

The Assistant Director coordinates and oversees the reporting training for university staff. S/he is responsible for the design and development of both in house reports and external reports that efficiently and effectively meet the needs of both internal and external stakeholders.

The position will direct the efforts of two direct reports providing oversight of the financial reporting process for the UMCP Foundation and generating special purpose and ad-hoc reporting and analysis as circumstances dictate as well as the disbursement functions ensuring every payable and disbursement is properly accounted for, recorded and disbursed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education (include licenses, certifications, etc.):
Bachelor's degree with a major in business management, finance or accounting.

Experience:
6 - 8 years of progressively responsible experience which includes financial report design, creation and compilation, data and financial analysis, project management and systems implementation, performance metrics analysis and reporting, historical data analysis that include financial and non-financial data, budgeting, accounting, payroll, purchasing, personnel, and supervision of professional level staff.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of management practices.

Ability to apply financial accounting, GAAP principles and analytical skills to review, analyze, forecast and present financial data for management decision making.

Ability to use sophisticated management and reporting analysis tools and access and extract data from multiple database and software platforms.

The ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and work with other interested parties in a cordial and professional manner.

The ability to organize and execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints.

The ability to design and oversee implementation of efficient and effective processes for accurate financial reporting.

Ability to prepare and present budgetary, accounting and other reports and schedules, and ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact.

Demonstrated ability to supervise professional level staff.

Preferences:

Knowledge and understanding of University policies and procedures in the area of finance, human resources, purchasing and sponsored programs.
Knowledge of Non-profit accounting principles.
Experience in a non-profit setting or higher education environment.
Experience with Blackbaud financial system and Blackbaud certifications
CPA , CMA
