Assistant Professor of Elementary Education

Job Summary

The Department of Teacher Education and Counseling, Foundations, & Leadership in Columbus State University's College of Education and Health Professions invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Elementary Education. The start date for this position is August 1, 2019.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: teaching undergraduate and graduate candidates in pre-service and advanced programs, both online and in person, mentoring master's, Ed.S., and doctoral students, and working collaboratively with internal and external partners and agencies. Responsibilities also include effective teaching and advising at the graduate and undergraduate levels; designing, implementing, and assessing the Elementary Education program; supervision of student teachers, interns, and practicum students; engaging in research and scholarly activities, to include service on committees of doctoral students; service to the program, department, college, and university; and actively participating in professional development and leadership activities. The Elementary Education program is a vibrant program that is rooted in a constructivist theoretical perspective, includes highly collaborative and innovative faculty, works closely with P-12 partners in Professional Development Schools, and prepares outstanding, highly sought-out teachers. The Department of Teacher Education and Counseling, Foundations & Leadership at Columbus State prepares candidates to be student-centered teachers who promote engagement and success for all learners.

The successful candidate will perform service and administrative tasks necessary to enhance program, department, college, and university goals and objectives; perform related tasks necessary to ensure excellence in educator preparation at Columbus State University; and use technology for synchronous and asynchronous instruction. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration, work in continuous improvement of educator preparation and educational research, demonstrate exceptional ability to function as part of a team with university faculty and the community of practice, and engage in practices that support the University's focus on student engagement and active learning.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should have an earned doctorate (ABD considered) in Elementary or Early Childhood Education (P-5) from a regionally accredited institution; evidence of three years' experience as a teacher in P-5 grades (U.S. public schools preferred); excellent written and oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills; demonstrated commitment to active and transformative learning; a record of successful research and publication or strong evidence of potential; a demonstrated record of membership and participation in relevant professional organizations; a record of service and involvement in the profession; the ability to use technology for synchronous and asynchronous instruction; and a commitment to high impact thinking and learning.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have the ability to bring innovative, active learning strategies to the Elementary Education program; have evidence of successful teaching at the college level in both traditional and online environments; have P-5 teaching experience in U.S. public schools; have evidence of collaborating with P-5 schools/partners in a Professional Development School; and have knowledge/experience with NCATE/CAEP accreditation.
