Assistant Teaching Professor in Mechanical and/or Aerospace Engineering (Lecturer with Potential of Security of Employment)

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE, http://maeweb.ucsd.edu/) at the University of California, San Diego invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor (also termed Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment). We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise and teaching experience in the core areas of mechanical and/or aerospace engineering, including laboratory and design courses. Generally, teaching professors are full-time employees who are expected to teach 2 courses per quarter. In addition to demonstrating excellence in teaching, individuals in this position are expected to engage in professional activities and service related to the pedagogical mission of the department and university.
LPSOE faculty are expected to do much more than excellent teaching. They have leadership responsibility, not only as teachers, but as facilitators and initiators of instructional development, curriculum design, course structure, teaching methods, new technologies, and coordinating a spectrum of teaching activities. They play a leadership role in teaching in the departments and their disciplines. Further, they provide university and public service in addition to educational leadership beyond the campus and contributions to instruction-related activities.
Candidates should demonstrate innovative teaching methodologies, potential to teach core and advanced lecture and/or laboratory courses in mechanical and/or aerospace engineering, and be highly motivated to improve the undergraduate student experience. The required job duties include teaching and mentoring of university students, curriculum development, accreditation, service activities, supervising undergraduate research, and mentoring undergraduate teams in their professional activities (e.g. Formula SAE, Design-Build-Fly and other student competitions).
A candidate for appointment, merit increase, or promotion in this series is judged by the following criteria:

Rank: Assistant Teaching Professor (also termed Lecturer with Potential for Security of Employment). This appointment confers membership in the Academic Senate, and, contingent upon promotion, security of employment. Salary: Level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications; salary based on UC pay scales and market conditions.
