Assistant Professor of Communication

Job Summary

The Department of Communication at Columbus State University in Columbus, Georgia seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Communication in the area of advertising, public relations, and to support our media writing curriculum. This position is to begin August 2019.

Responsibilities

The candidate will be expected to teach courses that support our curriculum, including but not limited to advertising, public relations, business and professional communication, research methods, social/digital media, and strategic media writing courses, in addition to expanding our current communication course offerings. Special consideration will be given to candidates whose skill sets include advertising, corporate communication, public relations, and research in media effects of advertising or public relations. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two upper division communication courses and two public speaking courses each semester. Summer teaching is often available. An active program of research is expected for tenure. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting and promoting active learning, supporting recruiting efforts, student organizations, and our Non-Profit and Civic Engagement Center (NPACE).

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. completed prior to August 2019. Demonstrated strategic use of social and digital media is expected. The successful candidate must clearly demonstrate a strong commitment to active learning and student engagement and high impact thinking and learning.
