The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering (SBHSE) seek applicants for a tenure-track/tenured faculty position in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to grow our efforts in this important thrust area within Biomedical Imaging. Appointments will be at the assistant, associate or full professor rank, commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2019. Although appointments may be in any of Fulton Engineering’s six schools, the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering is currently most involved in biomedical imaging.
 
Areas of interest include but are not limited to; development of fast magnetic resonance imaging techniques; development of MRI-based molecular imaging probes; and development of MRI techniques directed towards assessment of microenvironmental and biophysical parameters.
 
The Biomedical Imaging group within the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering includes diverse faculty with expertise in magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent design, contrast mechanisms, preclinical and translational cancer imaging, electrical property-based imaging, MRI pulse sequence design and reconstruction methods, and imaging hardware. Complementary efforts in ASU include research focused on neural injury, rehabilitation engineering, neural engineering, biomaterials, synthetic biology, cancer and neurodegenerative disease biology, signal and image processing and data visualization. The imaging group has partnerships with world-class clinicians, basic scientists, and engineers in the Phoenix area. They collaborate closely with and have access to imaging facilities in local medical centers across Phoenix; the Magnetic Resonance Research Center at ASU (http://nmr.asu.edu/), the Barrow-ASU Center for Preclinical Imaging (https://www.barrowneuro.org/research/active-research-studies/barrow-asu-center-for-preclinical-imaging/) and the Barrow Neuroimaging Innovation Center (https://www.barrowneuro.org/research/research-programs/center-neuroimaging-innovation/) at Barrow Neurological Institute, Phoenix (https://www.barrowneuro.org/).
 
Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering (including imaging based undergraduate laboratory courses), advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students and undertake service activities. 
 
Required qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent in biomedical engineering or a field closely related to the stated research and teaching focus of this position by the time of appointment; and
  • Evidence of excellence in research and teaching, as appropriate to the candidate’s rank
