Synthetic and Systems Biology

Professor (all ranks) in Synthetic and Systems Biology
 
The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering (FSE) at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering (SBHSE) seeks applicants for tenure-track/tenured faculty positions in the areas of systems and synthetic biology at the molecular, cellular, and/or tissue levels. Appointment will be at the assistant, associate, or full professor rank commensurate with the candidate’s experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2019.  Although appointments may be in any of Fulton Engineering’s six schools, the Harrington Biomedical Engineering Program in the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering is currently most involved in systems and synthetic biology.
 
Specific areas of expertise and interest include, but are not limited to; developmental biology using animal or stem cell-based systems; translational regenerative medicine approaches including, but not limited to in vivo applications of human-derived stem cells, in vivo gene delivery technologies; development of tools and technologies related to cellular pathway engineering, biomanufacturing systems, and gene editing strategies; bioinformatic and computational biology as it relates to disease-modeling applications; and epigenetics and chromatin structure, next generation sequencing, single-cell omics.
 
We seek applicants who will contribute to our programs and will leverage investments by the university in promoting interdisciplinary teaching and research.  These investments include, among others, collaborations with our health partners in the local area including the Mayo Clinic (https://www.mayoclinic.org/), Translational Genomics Institute (https://www.tgen.org/), Barrow Neurological Institute (https://www.barrowneuro.org/), Banner Health (https://www.bannerhealth.com/) and Phoenix Children’s Hospital (https://www.phoenixchildrens.org/). 
 
Faculty members are expected to develop an internationally recognized and externally funded research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and undertake service activities. 
 
Required qualifications:
• Ph.D. or equivalent in biomedical engineering, synthetic and systems biology or a field closely related to the stated research and teaching focus of this position by the time of appointment;
• Evidence of excellence in research, as appropriate to the candidate’s rank; and
• Evidence of excellence in teaching, as appropriate to the candidate’s rank
 
Desired qualifications:
• Commitment to trans-disciplinary teaming; and
• Ability to engage in well-established research initiatives with numerous health care providers within the Phoenix area
