Marketing Strategist - Communications and Marketing

Department Overview
University Communications and Marketing (UCM) oversees marketing and brand management, public relations, and editorial services for the university. In partnership with schools and programs, UCM develops marketing strategies and communications across channels.

The Marketing and Branding group develops strategies and marketing plans to support fundraising, enrollment, and reputation management.

Position Summary
The strategist manages a portfolio of schools and programs, with a focus on fundraising. Working with business partners, the strategist serves as the lead marketing consultant to support their business goals. In addition to advising on best practices, providing thought leadership and developing annual marketing plans, the strategist works with other departments in UCM to deliver projects in the annual marketing plans.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops a deep understanding of the schools/programs in the portfolio
  • Builds and sustains strong relationships with business partners, including Sr. Dir. of Development, annual fund team, stewardship team, and major gift fundraisers
  • Partners with school communications teams, dean s offices, and UCM teams, including creative services, digital content services, public relations, and editorial
  • Develops annual marketing plans to support fundraising/business goals with clear metrics to track success
  • Leads the strategic brief process and works collaboratively with colleagues across multiple departments to develop and deliver projects that are part of the marketing plan
  • Recommends shifts in strategy based on data and analytics; presents analytics to business partners on quarterly basis to help inform decision-making
  • Remains current on trends and best practices in marketing, with a focus on higher education and fundraising
  • Tracks project deadlines and budgets.


Qualifications:

Skills and Experience Required:
  • B.A./B.S. in marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3-7 years of experience in a communications or agency setting.

Preferred:
  • 8 to 10 years of experience.
  • Proven track record as a relationship builder and thought leader.
  • Demonstrated success in managing major strategic projects across all print and digital channels, including email, social media, and video.
  • Confident and engaging presenter who is comfortable in front of senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects concurrently, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues across a complex, matrixed institution.
  • Flexible thinking and nimble problem-solving.
  • Strong writer/editor.
