Job Description Summary

The Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University is seeking applications for the position of Extension Specialist - Weed Scientist. This position will be a twelve-month, non-tenure-track Extension Specialist based at the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center ( TVREC ) in Belle Mina, AL and will have a 75% extension and 25% research appointment. The projected start date is February 1, 2019.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and deliver a dynamic, impactful and innovative Extension program that focuses on weed management systems in soybean, corn, wheat, forages/pasture systems and rights-of-way. This position will have state-wide responsibilities and will be based at the Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center in Belle Mina, AL. The successful candidate in this position would be expected to work closely and cooperatively with other weed scientists in the Department of Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences, and agronomic Regional Extension Agents, as well as other scientists, and Extension Specialists. The successful candidate will also be expected to be an active member of the Alabama Cooperative Extension Systems Agronomic Crops and Animal Science and Forages Program Priority Teams ( PPT ). This program will be proactive in regards to the science behind weed management systems and their impact on the clientele the individual in this position serves. The candidates' Extension program should focus on the economic and natural resources sustainability of weed management systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in agronomy, crop science, soil science, plant physiology, or similar related fields at the time employment begins. Documented evidence of individual and/or collaborative research in weed management resulting in peer-reviewed publications is required. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues across disciplines and develop a collaborative research and Extension program. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with diverse audiences. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and to continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Post graduate experience in cropping systems.
