Job Description Summary

The College of Agriculture's Department of Poultry Science at Auburn University, which houses the Food Science academic program, is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Professor in the program area of food processing and sensory evaluation. The expected start date is August 1, 2019.

Responsibilities: This is a 9-month tenure-track position with 40% instruction and 60% research responsibilities in the area of food processing and sensory evaluation. The individual in the position will be responsible for developing instructional and research programs in food science with an emphasis in post-harvest food processing and sensory evaluation. The candidate will be expected to develop and sustain an extramurally-funded research and education program, function effectively on multidisciplinary teams, and develop collaborative relationships with faculty in the department and across the college. The candidate will be assigned to teach the required undergraduate/graduate sensory evaluation course and develop a general food processing course. Additional food science teaching responsibilities, commensurate with the candidate's expertise and teaching workload, will be required. Mentoring graduate students and active participation in the departmental academic programs are required. Service activities to the department, college and university are also expected.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include an earned Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Food Science, Food Engineering, Food Technology or closely related field by the expected position start date. The candidate must have documented experience in food technology with an emphasis in food processing and sensory evaluation. Documented evidence of research resulting in peer reviewed publications and scientific abstracts are required. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively with faculty, students and industry to develop collaborative research and teaching programs. In addition, demonstrated knowledge and the ability to instruct courses to undergraduate and graduate students are essential. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with diverse audiences are required along with the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. The candidate must meet eligibility requirements for work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Desirable qualifications include post-doctoral research experience, experience with food processing and products, and documented ability to obtain extramural funding.
