Lecturer - Mechanical Engineering



The College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics at Eastern Washington University invite applications for a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering/Mechanical Engineering Technology in the Department of Engineering & Design. The Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology programs have grown dramatically in the past few years, which is driving the need to hire more faculty. Candidate hired to fill this position will begin either January or April 2019.


We are seeking a broadly trained candidate who will be an inspirational teacher, role model, and mentor and who complements the strengths of our faculty in order to engage in instructionally intensive undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Technology.


The successful candidate will have earned by the appointment date an MS or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related field, have at least one year of teaching experience in ME/MET, at least one year of industrial experience. The successful candidate must have a strong interest in teaching undergraduate Engineering courses and excellent communication skills to meet the needs of our diverse student body. Significant successful prior college teaching experience, professional licensure, demonstrated ability to publish work in the technical literature, and machining experience are preferred. Primary areas of responsibility include teaching undergraduate mechanical engineering and mechanical engineering technology courses (including some taken by our BS Technology students). Candidates with expertise in manufacturing technology. All faculty are expected to engage in effective teaching and assessment of student learning in these ABET accredited programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field;

  • One year of teaching experience of ME and/or MET courses;

  • One year of industrial experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field;

  • Two or more years of experience of teaching of several ME and MET courses including, but not limited to, Engineering Drawings (CAD), Solidworks, Solid Mechanics, ThermoFluids, Electricity, and others;

  • PE license or having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam;

  • Experience with machining;

  • Proven record of scholarly publications;

  • Self-motivated to promote cultural diversity.
