Circulation - Overdue Materials Processing (LAP3)



Eastern Washington University seeks an experienced Circulation - Overdue Materials Processing (Library & Archives Paraprofessional 3) to join Library staff on our Cheney Campus. This is a full time position.


Key responsibilities of this position include:

•Monitor and process billing and overdue transactions on library user accounts. This involves processing and analyzing reports, and working closely with clients and Student Financial Services.
•Work directly with students, faculty, and other patrons to set up reported returned and reported lost transactions. Monitor progress of transactions to completion.
•Lead assigned staff in the operation and support of the unit; act as the senior Circulation employee in the absence of unit managers. May assign, instruct, and check the work of less senior employees.
•Perform Circulation lead duties to assist clients at two public service desks.
•Work directly with students, faculty, and other clients to provide service in support of the library and university missions.


The preferred start date is November 1, 2018. This position is supervised by the Circulation Unit Manager. Position is located on Eastern's Cheney campus. All materials will be held in strictest confidence; references will not be contacted until candidates have been notified.

Conditions of Employment


This is a full time position working 12 months each year.


Must be able to perform position's essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be available to work assigned schedule: Tuesday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 9:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.


Essential functions:
•Ability to work at a computer station for extended periods up to 40 hours per week.
•Ability to type at a computer at a moderate rate of speed (i.e. 30 words per minute).
•Ability to read and understand bibliographic records in library catalogs, databases, websites, etc.
•Ability to pick up books and other library resources weighing up to 40 pounds.
•Ability to communicate professionally in person, by email, and telephone.


This is an agency shop position.




Required Position Qualifications



  • High school graduation or equivalent.



  • Three years of applicable library technical experience, including one year beyond the entry level, or an associate degree in library technology from an accredited program and one year of technical experience in the functional operation of a library level. Equivalent education or experience may be substituted.



  • Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is sensitive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of the students, faculty, administrators and external contacts


Required abilities, proficiency and skills:



  • Ability to:

    • Analyze difficult situations and respond accordingly.

    • Handle complex library billing transactions and problems.

    • Deal with the public in a professional, calm manner.

    • Maintain helpful and professional demeanor while working in a busy, sometimes stressful environment, providing support to multiple people, and enduring interruptions throughout the day.

    • Perform work with high attention and accuracy.

    • Compile statistics and analyze data using applications such as Excel and Alma Analytics.

    • Operate ancillary office equipment such as: computer, printers, fax machine, copy machine, scanner, and telephones.





  • Proficiency and Skills with/in:

    • Using the electronic library circulation system (Alma or other ILS).

    • Using the patron billing components of Banner.

    • Microsoft Office products (Word and Excel).

    • Keyboarding, computer use, email, and recordkeeping.






Preferred Qualifications:

•Experience with and/or understanding of complex process/system concepts.
•One year Alma/Circulation experience.
•One year lead/supervisory experience.
•Experience with Banner.

•Ability to take initiative, and exercise resourcefulness and independent motivation.
•Consistent ability to make positive contributions to team-oriented workplace.
