Under minimal supervision from Grounds Supervisor, performs a variety of sometimes strenuous physical tasks dedicated to the daily care and maintenance of hard and soft scape for grounds, lawns, shrubs, trees, and plants using appropriate equipment, supplies, methods and techniques.


Qualifications:

Basic Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Valid driver s license
• Valid MA pesticide applicators (CORE) license.
• Valid 2B hoisting license.
• Minimum of 2 years experience of relevant grounds experience required including working with woody plant material, perennials, and annuals including such tasks as: pruning, planting, transplanting, deadheading, watering, fertilizing, disease identification, applying horticulture treatments.
• Working knowledge and experience in state of the art grounds-keeping methods and techniques, such as fertilization, aeration, irrigation, weeding, seeding, mowing, and sodding.
• Comprehensive working knowledge with winter operations for snow plowing and sanding/salting operations with a minimum of two years of experience.
• High level knowledge of and ability to use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, line trimmers, lawn rollers, saws, pruners, irrigation equipment, trowels, tamps, hammers, pliers, wrenches and spading forks, Etc.
• Ability to direct the work of and provide hands-on guidance for small work groups of employees assigned to specific grounds or labor assignments and projects.
• Ability to perform strenuous physical activities in all types of weather.
• Ability to work overtime as required is expected.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Arboretum experience.
• A valid MA Commercial Pesticide Certification.
• 2 or more consecutive years of relevant grounds experience for an institution of Higher Education.
• 2 years of natural and synthetic athletic field experience.
• Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to operate and provide daily maintenance for related grounds equipment and vehicles such as tractors, loaders, mowers, rototillers, hydraulic sprayers, aerators, lawn sweepers and snow removal equipment.
• Ability to operate tractor mounted attachments including but not limited to: snow blowers, Rake-O-Vac, Verti Drain, Verti Cutter, Aera Vator, Top Dressers, Slicer Seeders, fertilizers spreaders.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
7:30 a to 4:00 p
