Assistant Professor, Visual Communications

The Department of Art & Design at the University of Delaware (UD), seeks qualified candidates for appointment as Assistant Professor, tenure-track, beginning Fall Semester 2019. We are seeking a dynamic and energetic individual who believes in the value of design fundamentals while embracing innovative and diverse technologies, ideologies, and methodologies in their creative practice and teaching.

Ideal candidates show evidence of impact on their profession and students as well as strong potential for success within a research-driven university. They have an in-depth knowledge of typography and communication design theory, in addition to a unique perspective and working knowledge of contemporary media and technology. They are a dynamic thinker and critical maker, valuing the importance of both-on- and off-screen. Professional experience in a design-related field is desirable, but not required. UD and our department are committed to socially and community-engaged practice and research.

The successful candidate will teach primarily in the department's nationally-ranked undergraduate Visual Communications BFA program, as well as contribute to curriculum development within the department's core courses. This person will also engage in critical dialog across the department degree programs, which include Visual Communications (VC), Bachelor of Art, Fine Arts and the two graduate programs, (Interaction Design and Studio Arts).

The full-time, tenure-track VC faculty teaching load is five courses a year, comprised of a combination of courses throughout the department. In addition to teaching, full-time faculty members are expected to maintain active creative research, serve on college committees, advise students, participate in curriculum development and other departmental activities and projects, and contribute to the vibrant intellectual life of the University.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have a graduate degree (MFA, MS, PhD, MA, MDes, MAD, MGraph, or equivalent terminal degree) in graphic design or related field and preferably at least two years teaching experience at the college level.
