Assistant Professor of Viola

The College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati (CCM) seeks an experienced artist/teacher of viola for a full-time tenure-track appointment with the String Department of the Performance Studies Division, to begin Fall Semester 2019. CCM's String Department is a highly collaborative, multidimensional area within the Performance Studies Division offering the BM, MM, AD and DMA degree programs. In addition to CCM's esteemed full-time string faculty, several distinguished musicians of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) also serve as CCM adjunct faculty. This year the CSO and CCM celebrate the third year of a groundbreaking partnership between CCM and the CSO, the CSO/CCM Diversity Fellowship Program, funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This Diversity Fellowship is a prestigious orchestral performance fellowship program for exceptional string players, providing a unique and unparalleled two-year learning experience for graduate-level violin, viola, violoncello and double bass students from populations historically underrepresented in classical music. Responsibilities: Emphasis will be upon the teaching and recruiting of high-quality undergraduate and graduate applied and concentration-level viola students; to teach courses in related areas (subject to the candidate's expertise and the needs of the school); advising doctoral documents, projects, and lecture-recitals; and coaching chamber music. A strong interest in and experience with community engagement, musical entrepreneurship, leadership in music, and/or other nontraditional career models is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the discipline through engagement in significant professional activities including maintaining regional, national, and international visibility in solo/chamber music/orchestral performance, external masterclasses, services to the college/university/community, and academic advising/mentoring of students.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree required, Doctorate preferred (commensurate professional experience will be considered in lieu of a terminal degree) significant professional performance experience college teaching experience at the graduate and/or professional level with a proven record of student successes demonstrated commitment to pedagogy and recruitment and qualifications to teach in related areas.

Terms of Appointment: Full-Time tenure-track at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Appointment Date: August 15, 2019.
