Project Manager, Construction Services

Job Summary

Columbus State University is seeking organized and energetic candidates for a Project Manager, Construction Services in the Department of Facilities. This position assists the Executive Director of Facilities with planning and executing projects accomplishing the University's needs for renovation and new construction. The selected candidate serves to assist in defining the project's objectives and overseeing quality control throughout its life cycle. This includes acting as a liaison between administration, architects, third-party contractors, skilled tradesmen, engineers, and consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan, strict deadlines, and within budget.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: planning, directing, and coordinating activities of designated construction projects to ensure goals are accomplished within prescribed time and funding parameters; directing and managing project development from conception to completion; monitoring projects to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; reviewing the internal project management of major capital projects designed by outside architects; conducting regular inspections of work in progress and on completion; coordinating material deliveries and resources required to complete projects; developing project budget and manages project funds throughout the life of the project; assuring that all required project approvals are obtained as appropriate; inspecting and monitoring the facilities for safety hazards and implementing solutions; consulting and advising university personnel involved in writing project justification proposals; compiling complex data for reports. Budgets, studies, and other projects; and all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Building Science, Construction, Architecture, MEP, or related field of study; and seven years' of management experience; or an appropriate combination of education and experience. The successful candidate must possess a demonstrated knowledge of state and local building codes, field observation, and construction and engineering standards; experience with a diversity of construction systems and renovations; experience with performing detailed construction cost estimates; strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; strong analytical and organizational skills; be detail oriented; and possess the ability to lead diverse project teams with conflicting interests, needs, or requirements.

The selected candidate must also possess the ability to make sound business decisions; exhibit excellent customer service skills; possess knowledge of building maintenance practices and safety precautions and procedures; the ability to supervise and direct the work of others; a demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple building trades on multiple projects; the ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, drawings, and blueprints of buildings and equipment; the ability to estimate labor and material costs and assist in planning projects; and excellent computer skills with experience using project scheduling, word processing, and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of AutoCAD or similar programming systems is also preferred.

The successful candidate must occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds; occasionally be exposed to various weather conditions and toxic or caustic chemicals.

Proposed Salary

The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
