Graduate Assistant-Student Leadership and PROWL

Job Summary

Student Leadership develops students of Columbus State University to be sustainable campus, community, and global leaders through leadership education, co-curricular training, and experiential learning opportunities. Student Leadership focuses on the progression of every student by creating and facilitating engaging programming that will expand student support and foster and increase student leadership knowledge, leadership development, creativity, and effectiveness. In the scope of programming and transition efforts, the department supports the mission of Columbus State University and assists students into and through their collegiate experience. Camp PROWL gives students a memorable experience designed to focus on student success in the transition from high school to college. This four day, three-night camp engages students in a fun and energizing program that creates an exciting entrance into the first year at CSU. PROWL allows incoming students to experience leadership development through self-development, team building, active learning, and problem solving.

Responsibilities

PROWL

Assist in planning, scheduling and implementation of Camp PROWL; oversee recruitment and selection process of PROWL leaders; assist in preparation and implementation of PROWL trainings and team retreats which includes teaching campus knowledge and leadership curriculum; facilitate leadership retreat for PROWL leaders; facilitate individual and group weekly meetings in conjunction with advisors; participate in the development, operating goals, and objectives for the unit; oversee the ordering process for PROWL supplies; responsible for the distribution of surveys and collection of PROWL data; assist with implementation of mailings for Camp PROWL; oversee ordering and distribution of Camp PROWL swag; remain current on university programs and changes within the academic schools and colleges; respond to email and telephone inquiries; represent Columbus State University at conferences, meetings, and other official functions and perform other duties as assigned.

Student Leadership

Assist in planning and executing campus-wide annual Cougar Leadership Conference; aid in coordinating Monthly Leadership Workshop Series and the Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum; student Simulcast; assist in recruiting, training and advising a Student Leadership Board; assist in organizing an annual Student Leadership Recognition Banquet; help facilitate workshops and trainings for student organizations and advisors; assist in the implementation of iLead, a campus-wide leadership program and perform other duties as assigned.

Campus Initiatives and Special Projects

Assist in coordinating student programming efforts and visibility at RiverPark including leadership, special events, and activities; collaborate with aspects of various programmatic/leadership areas (e.g. Camp PROWL, Student Activities, Orientation, Diversity Programs, etc.); work closely with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to collaborate on programmatic initiatives designed to capture the college student experience and serves on appropriate university committees and governing boards.

Office of Student Life and Development

Participate and assist in the implementation and execution of major events held by the university such as:
ROAR Orientation; Camp PROWL; Cougar Kickoff; Homecoming; Miss CSU Pageant; WinterFest and all other campus initiatives as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Enrolled as a full-time graduate student at Columbus State University; well organized and able to multi-task as needed; Bachelor's Degree; valid driver's license; possess excellent oral and written communication skills; possess skills necessary for event and program planning; possess basic computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other related programs and model appropriate behavior for student leaders and the campus community.

Preferred Qualifications

Familiar with student development theory and related educational theories ; seeking a Masters or PhD in Higher Education or a related field; experience in advising undergraduate students; experience in programming and experience working with students, parents, university administrators and faculty.

Proposed Salary

The salary is commensurate with education and experience. This position will work up to 19 hours per week.
