Position Summary:
We are looking for a wage personnel at Virginia Tech's AHS Jr. Agricultural Research and Extension Center, located in Winchester, Virginia. This position is a field and lab assistant for the horticulture research program. The candidate will be responsible for the management of fruit-tree research plots in terms of pruning, spraying, thinning, and harvesting. The candidate will be assisting with other staff employees in establishing and maintaining field and lab experiments related to tree physiology, rootstock evaluation, plant growth regulators, fruit quality and post-harvest disorders. Both lab and field work require thorough recording and reporting of research results and proper handling of research equipment and chemicals. Majority of work during the fall and winter will be lab-based and that of the spring to summer will be field-based.

Required Qualifications:
Experience and/or education in plant science, biology or a relevant discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in science or related field; orchard and/or lab experience; computer skills (MS word and Excel; email and Internet); and experience with managing/supervising resources and/or others.
