Lecturer of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics at Columbus State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer of Mathematics. This position is available January 1, 2019.

This position will include a workload of teaching 15 hours per semester of learning support and general education mathematics courses and will join a group of 16 full-time faculty members in the department including mathematicians, statisticians, and mathematics educators. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: developing and providing instruction that engages students in active learning; incorporating innovative learning strategies and current teaching methodologies, including online, use of technology, and mathematical software; assisting students outside the classroom including during office hours and lab hours; assessing student success and achievement in accordance with the University’s General Education Assessment Plans; and collaborating with other faculty on designing co-requisite labs, lessons, exams, and teaching techniques. The Department of Mathematics offers baccalaureate degrees in Mathematics, Mathematics and Secondary Education, and Applied Mathematics. The Department of Mathematics seeks candidates that utilize suitable pedagogy appropriate for the diverse body of students found at CSU.

Candidates should possess a Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, Statistics, or closely related field with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the mathematical sciences prior to appointment date; a demonstrated enthusiasm for teaching students in learning support and general education courses; and excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preference may be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence in teaching a diverse student body, experience working with tutors and peer leaders to support student success, and possess a minimum of two years’ teaching experience at the collegiate level.
