Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics of the University of Hartford is accepting applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin in August 2019. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in Data Science, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Graph Theory, Combinatorics and their applications, but candidates in all areas of the mathematical sciences will be considered. An earned doctorate in mathematics, applied mathematics, or related areas is required before August 1, 2019; ABDs will be considered providing they document a degree completion date.  The Department of Mathematics serves a large number of students in the College of Engineering, Technology, and Architecture as well as majors in mathematics, the sciences, and pre-medical programs. The normal teaching load is 3 courses per semester and the class sizes are relatively small. Candidates should have a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and to scholarly activity. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ technology in teaching and to contribute in our active undergraduate projects. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative, University Interdisciplinary Studies (UIS) curriculum. Successful applicants will be expected to participate in departmental and school committees, advise students, and contribute to student recruitment and retention. Candidates with a demonstrated ability to contribute to the university’s commitment to diversity are strongly encouraged to apply. The College of Arts and Sciences is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching and/or service.

The University is located in greater Hartford, an area rich in cultural and recreational activities, and it is within driving distance of metropolitan Boston and New York. Students at the University of Hartford find success in a learning environment that both challenges and mentors them. Our academic mission is to engage students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to thrive in, and contribute to, a pluralistic, complex world. Our new five-year strategic plan was approved in May of 2014 and is being implemented by teams of faculty and staff. More information on the plan and the full text of our academic mission can be seen at www.hartford.edu.

The University of Hartford is an open and welcoming community, which values diversity in all its forms. In addition, the University aspires to have its faculty and staff reflect the rich diversity of its student body and the Hartford region. Candidates committed to working with diverse populations and conversant in multicultural issues are encouraged to apply.

Applicants are required to fill out the posting at http://hartford.peopleadmin.com/postings/2205 and then submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, research statement, diversity statement (a one-page statement describing your experience with and commitment to teaching diverse student populations), graduate transcripts (unofficial for application; official prior to interview) using the online service mathjobs provided by the AMS (http://www.mathjobs.org). In addition, three signed letters of reference should be submitted by referees to www.mathjobs.org. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled or otherwise closed at the College's discretion.
