Business Manager

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Finance, the Business Manager is responsible for business functions including bookkeeping, monthly financial reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, file maintenance, entering orders into HokieMart, and monitoring the use of financial resources in full compliance with state and university regulations. This position participates in related functions pertaining to audits and program reviews by anticipating, identifying and minimizing risk factors in the administration of financial resources. The business manager also processes the Honors College's personnel transactions on university's Banner HR system. Assists with onboarding new employees, completing separation of employees, monitoring compliance for wage employees, and processing graduate student tuition remissions and stipends.

Required Qualifications:
Degree in business or related field or equivalent level of training and experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in general accounting, budgeting, and fund reconciliation. Working knowledge of the Banner Information System or other similar database systems. Advanced spreadsheet and financial system abilities. Good communication and interpersonal skills with attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to arrange and complete multiple tasks, solve problems independently, and exercise judgement in dealing with confidential information.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience managing financial activities. Working knowledge of University and State policies and procedures.
