Lab Technician

Position Summary:
Specific responsibilities include managing departmental laboratories in Cheatham Hall, the Brooks Center, and Kelly Hall. Maintain and continuously improve a comprehensive lab safety program; be responsible for a variety of skilled, technical or compliance duties in the sustainable biomaterials area; lead, train or supervise students in safe and proper laboratory practices; conduct laboratory safety reviews and monitor compliance of safety classes on EHS SMS system. The laboratory technician will also apply knowledge of scientific/technical principles, practices, and regulatory requirements of functional areas. Perform a variety of procedures supporting research; organize graduate student maintenance of laboratory cleanliness and order; service or diagnose laboratory programs. Duties may also include performing standardized or specialized scientific procedures; assisting in analysis and compilation of data; communicating findings and research results; manage the repair and maintenance of equipment, training of students on the proper use of instruments, ordering lab supplies, and inventorying all laboratory chemicals.

Required Qualifications:
Previous chemical laboratory experience demonstrating the ability to follow standard operating procedures; working knowledge of lab safety and chemical handling; experience utilizing various office software applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook; must possess strong communication skills, including ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people.

Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field; experience with analytical instrumentation.
