Division/Department Information

The University's School of Education was founded in 1908, as its first professional school. The School has a population of 358 undergraduates and 1,462 graduate students and offers baccalaureate, master's, advanced certificates, and doctoral degrees servicing the Queens, Staten Island, Long Island, and Manhattan campuses. The Department of Education Specialties offers graduate programs in Bilingual/Multicultural Education, Literacy, TESOL, and Special Education. It also offers a Ph.D. in Literacy.



Responsibilities

Responsibilities include teaching fully online doctoral and graduate courses in research methods (including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods), theory, and practice of literacy instruction particularly for diverse learners and with a focus on urban education. The position requires the candidate to actively participate in online course development and delivery, conduct and collaborate on high-impact research, mentor doctoral candidates across quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods studies, and conduct doctoral seminars. In addition, the candidate may also teach across a number of master's and advanced certificate programs. Non-instructional duties include student advisement, scholarship activity, university service, participation in Academic Service Learning projects, departmental and School of Education committee participation, and on-going program evaluation and review.



Qualifications

The position requires an earned doctorate in reading and/or literacy-related field (before start date) with background and experience in conducting research and teaching in school settings. A record of publications, presentations at scholarly meetings and professional organizations, grant writing, teaching online courses, and mentoring doctoral candidates is preferred. Familiarity and/or expertise in using Blackboard is also preferred.
