Emergency Room Technical Coordinator - Foster Hospital for Small Animals


This is a part time position anticipated to work 17.5 hours per week.

The Henry and Lois Foster Hospital for Small Animals provides 24-hour care for pets 365 days of the year. Since 1979, we have offered high quality medical care, consultation, referral and emergency veterinary services for the care of dogs, cats and exotic pets. In addition, the hospital creates a positive learning experience for TCSVM students, ECC residents, rotating interns and student technicians with regard to small animal ECC medicine.

The ER Technical Coordinator s primary responsibility is to facilitate the administrative flow of the emergency room assist clinicians through the real time capture of all charges, correcting charge errors associated with diagnosis, treatment and medical procedures delivered in the ER. This facilitation includes: managing the triage board, filling medications, completing consults requests and interacting with other services to coordinate consults, necropsy requests and documentation in the medical record for drugs and procedures under the direction of a clinician. In addition, there is responsibility for compliance with hospital SOPs and to ensure that all the proper User Forms/Treatment Requests are completed in the medical record. Finally, this position has the responsibility to coordinate follow-up of laboratory results daily.



Qualifications:


Basic requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent. Certified veterinary technician. Familiarity with medical terminology, veterinary pharmacology and animal behavior. Exceptional interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers, clinicians, staff, students and clients. Enthusiastic, genuine, empathetic and self-motivated professional with a positive, upbeat attitude.
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities within a busy clinical setting. Ability to effectively work as a member of a diverse team of clinical professionals in busy ER. Basic computer skills including the ability to learn the Stringsoft (electronic medical record) system. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor s degree in related field. Intimate knowledge of the workings of a veterinary emergency room. Experience as a Veterinary Technician in a referral hospital environment.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:

The schedule for this position includes University and calendar holiday coverage on a rotating basis. The schedule for this position may include evening and weekend hour shifts. This position is considered essential and is therefore required to report to work as scheduled during emergency closings.
