The Office of the Vice President for Research at the University of Connecticut (UConn) is seeking an energetic life-cycle or post-award Faculty Services Specialist/Grant Manager (Grants and Contracts Specialist 1, UCP 6) with a strong customer service orientation, organizational and relationship skills to join our Faculty Services Team.

The Office of the Vice President for Research, Faculty Services (OVPR FS) was established to provide centralized, comprehensive grants management support to a portfolio of departments throughout the University.

Reporting to the Faculty Services Team Leader, the "Faculty Services Specialist" provides direct professional support and guidance in the financial administration of grants, contracts and related funds to faculty. This position provides a high level of client satisfaction through strong relationship management and organizational skills. The Faculty Services Specialist will work independently and as a contributing member of a team, utilizing well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills to manage a complex portfolio of funded projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Advise, guide and assist faculty and administrators in the management of sponsored awards; create financial reports to assist with the management of sponsored projects; interpret award documents to ensure proper set up of accounts, and compliance with financial obligations; generate detailed monthly financial transaction reports for analysis, projection and action; provide timely and accurate post-award transactional support for faculty research portfolios, including commitment management, cost transfers and other grant-management related tasks; assist with completion of administrative portions of progress reports to sponsors; provide direction, training and assistance to principal investigators and department staff in financial award management; collaborate with central post-award sponsored program services staff to facilitate agreements and ensure conformity with policies and guidelines; serve as back-up for other Faculty Services personnel; other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree and four years of relevant experience, or eight years of experience in a complex business, governmental, or comparable organization involving accounting, budgeting and contracting; thorough knowledge of federal laws and regulations regarding grants and contracts, or equivalent translatable knowledge and experience; demonstrated experience developing budgets, performing financial transactions and preparing financial reports; effective time management, follow-through, and organizational skills; demonstrated superior customer service orientation; flexibility and ability to multitask and work under deadline pressure without sacrificing accuracy or customer service; thorough working knowledge of PC-based tools including Microsoft Office Suite.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's or advanced degree in business, accounting or an appropriate field; direct experience with grant and contract post-award administration process in an institution of higher education; thorough working knowledge of database administration and other related software; experience using a financial system (such as KFS); in-depth knowledge of OBM Circular A-81 (Uniform Guidance); knowledge of current trends in research administration; experience working in an institution of higher education.

APPOINTMENT TERMS
