Artist with Sculpture emphasis, Assistant Professor (tenure track) in Studio Art

A studio artist working in sculpture with a cross-disciplinary practice including a component of public, participatory or social engagement. We seek an artist with expertise in, and commitment to, material practice and whose practice engages issues of diversity, equity and/or social justice. We seek especially an artist able to teach in several areas of studio (such as painting and drawing as well as sculpture) and in cross-disciplinary art production such as installation, environment, performance, collaboration, and/or participatory art practice. Teaching will encompass the entire curricular range from large introductory lecture courses for majors and general education students to intermediate and advanced undergraduate critique courses and project courses focused on theory, issues, problems and techniques, to graduate courses for MFA students in a program structured around concepts, theories, and practices. Studio Art is part of the Visual Arts Department, one of the few in the nation to offer both a MFA and a PhD in Art History and Criticism, which also includes a concentration in Art Practice. The department offers undergraduate majors in Art History, Media, Interdisciplinary Computing in Art and Speculative Design as well as Studio.

Rank and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience based on UC pay scales.
