Assistant Professor in Residence


The Department of Communication invites applications for a non - tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor In-Residence, with a focus on interpersonal communication and persuasion. The successful candidate will teach and coordinate large mid-level communication courses and supervise graduate student teaching assistants. The successful candidate will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups, demonstrate the ability to teach students with varied learning styles, and integrate multicultural perspectives into the curriculum. The teaching load will be seven courses across the academic year - three courses for one semester and four courses for the other semester. A one course reduction may be negotiated in exchange for additional commitments to undergraduate advising, curriculum development, and/or undergraduate student organizations.

The Department of Communication has 17 full time faculty members and 4 Assistant Professors in-Residence and Visiting Professors, and has approximately 40 graduate students and 900 undergraduate majors. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Ph.D. in Communication is required. We seek an experienced teacher who takes an empirical approach to the study of communication and is interested in being part of a collegial faculty. The ability to teach undergraduate courses in interpersonal communication and persuasion is also required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to teach undergraduate courses in digital production is desirable. Desire to teach upper level courses in area of research interest is encouraged. Experience with large classes is strongly preferred.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a 9-month, annually renewable, non- tenure track position with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2019. This position does not lead to permanent academic tenure and will be filled subject to budget approval. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate's academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus.
