Metal Shop Technician

Position Summary:
The School of Architecture and Design is currently seeking a Metal Shop Technician to assist in the management of the activities and supervision of students in the Burchard Metal Shop. This position provides instruction, safety, and maintenance of existing machinery, including highly technical digital machinery, advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing methods, 3D modeling, manufacturing processes, machine shop practices, welding, woodworking, and plastics fabrication techniques to students, faculty and shop technicians. The metal shop technician supervises and instructs students, faculty and other users on a variety of research, design, class-assigned and thesis-related projects; manages Computer Numerical Controlled ( CNC ) machinery, software, G-code programming and variables, maintenance, and calibrations for all labs in the college.

Required Qualifications:
Training and experience utilizing computers and computer operated machinery. Demonstrated experience with a full range of metal shop machinery, equipment, and tools; computer aided design; and metal fabrication, woodworking, and plastics. Ability to demonstrate, train, and instruct students on proper usage and handling of equipment and tools.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work with a large and diverse faculty and student body.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with metal shop equipment and machinery.
