Assistant Vice President, HR Administration

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Assistant Vice President ( AVP ) of HR Administration serves as a member of the HR Division's Senior Leadership Team ( SLT ) and provides leadership and effective management of the administrative functions in support of the Division of Human Resources. In fulfilling this role, the AVP of HR Administration directs the administrative units responsible for Benefits (Health Insurance, Retirement, Workers Compensation, Leave/Absence Management), Employee Administration, and HR Applications. Working with Central IT, the AVP represents Human Resources in all systems discussions and leads discussions related to HR systems development/implementation. The AVP will be responsible for monitoring industry trends, developing related strategies in support of the University's mission, implementing programs to advance the Division's priorities, and acting as the liaison to university-wide initiatives and committees seeking input on HR Administrative matters.
Description of Duties:
-In concert with the SLT , develop HR Administration priorities to further the goals of the division
-Develop and implement policies and procedures in alignment with institutional needs and compliant with applicable laws and regulations
-Establish and execute effective plans to implement programs in support of institutional and divisional objectives
-Oversee the hiring, orientation and training of administrative professional and staff employees within the HR Administration areas.
This position will have access to sensitive and confidential information and requires the completion of a Criminal Background Check.

Required Qualifications:
- MBA or equivalent degree and relevant extensive experience in benefits with oversight of administration of a broad array of benefits offerings.
-Experience establishing, communicating and achieving operational goals associated with the priorities of the Division
-Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups
-Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, knowledge of computer applications for data analysis and reporting
-Management experience with complex enterprise systems
-Experience in strategic planning and policy development
-Demonstrated experience managing large staff with differing areas of expertise

Preferred Qualifications:
-Demonstrated understanding of the mission of a land grant university
-Demonstrated knowledge of financial and personnel policies and related enterprise systems (e.g., Virginia Tech, higher ed)
-Demonstrated experience in process improvement in HR programs/projects
