Postdoctoral Associate/Research Associate

Position Summary:
The Physics Department at Virginia Tech invites applications for a postdoctoral or research associate position (commensurate with experience) to work in the group of Prof. Vito Scarola. The position involves modeling quantum many-body states of matter in the overlapping areas of condensed matter and atomic, molecular and optical ( AMO ) Physics. Example topics of interest include quantum magnetism, quantum information processing with novel states of matter, quantum effects in the presence of disorder, exotic superfluids, and topological states. Modeling will apply to a variety of systems, but an emphasis on AMO systems is expected. Close collaboration with experimental groups will be encouraged.
This research will be conducted with Prof. Vito Scarola and his students at Virginia Tech. The work will require close collaboration and interaction with students, postdocs, and faculty members at Virginia Tech, as well as an international set of collaborators.
Rank of position will be determined by qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should be familiar with methods in quantum many-body and/or AMO theory. Other requirements include the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, strong verbal and written communication skills in English, and strong motivation. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics or a related field.
At the research associate level, this position will also entail collaboration with, as well as mentoring and supervision of junior researchers.

Preferred Qualifications:
Additional expertise in computational methods is highly desirable, but not a prerequisite.
