Sport Club Coordinator

Position Summary:
The Sport Club Coordinator will assist with the administrative and fiscal advisement of the university's sport club program consisting of 29 competitive teams with over 1,000 members; provide assistance with a wide range of programming, fiscal, and administrative duties, including coordinating team expenditures and advising/mentoring of sport club officers and members; consult with team leadership/members on problem solving skills, time management skills, organizational behavior and dynamics, and how to work towards a common goal. The coordinator will also oversee sport club budgets; perform bookkeeping and accounting related duties to processing vendor payments through the university e-procurement system (Hokie Mart), travel reimbursements, ISR'S, journal entry transfers, and all VISA purchasing transactions for the sport clubs program. The coordinator also reconciles reports with university Banner program. This position will serve as liaison between the Virginia Tech Foundation and the sport club program; manage Foundation deposits and reports; and assists with other duties as assigned. The Coordinator reports directly to the Assistant Director for Sport Clubs and works in conjunction with members of the Recreational Sports staff to enhance the quality of life for the university community, advance the departments commitment to inclusivity, and meet the needs of the ever-changing needs of a diverse student population. The successful candidate will have strong organizational skills, be detail oriented, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and must be able to work promptly to balance multiple and competing deadlines.
There are currently 29 Extramural Sport Clubs administered by the Virginia Tech Department of Recreational Sports. Each club is comprised of enthusiastic, hardworking, and dedicated athletes who organize, fund, and promote their clubs with the ultimate goal of competing against other colleges and universities on both a regional and national level. Extramural Sport Clubs provide unique opportunities for students to participate, compete, and develop skills in a variety of sports. These clubs actively recruit both new and experienced student athletes during the year, through weekly practices, and prepare for intercollegiate competitions. Sport clubs are governed by regulations of the Department of Recreational Sports, Virginia Tech, and the sport clubs national governing body. Sport Club members represent not only their club, but also the Department of Recreational Sports and Virginia Tech The success of the Extramural Sport Club program at Virginia Tech is the result of dedicated student leaders volunteering their time, effort, and guidance to their respective clubs. Sport club officers provide strong leadership as well as a vision that carries each club into the new academic year.

Required Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Business, or closely related field and equivalent related experience.
-Experience in a recreational or athletic administrative setting or closely related field;
-Experience with supervising employees and directing the work of others;
-Experience with maintaining accurate records including schedules, budgets, and reports.
-Demonstrated knowledge of computer hardware and software applications.
-Considerable experience using a networked computer system with evidence of proficiency in word processing, bookkeeping and utilization, database entry and maintenance.
-Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain successful and effective relationships with a diverse, multicultural student, staff, alumni, and guest population.
-Must be detail oriented.
-Must possess strong organizational skills that include the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and perform multiple functions with overlapping deadlines.
-Demonstrated ability to work independently and operate within a team-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
-Master's Degree in Sports Management, Higher Education, Recreation or related field preferred.
-Leadership experience within a collegiate sport club program;
-Experience working with and advising students in a higher-education setting;
-Knowledge of information technology as applied to a collegiate sport club program;
-Previous experience with university databases such as TEM , Fleet Services, etc;
-Familiarity in fundraising/advancement efforts, and knowledge of state policies and procedures.
