Department of Public Health Contract Faculty - Adjunct Pool 2018/2019

Summary/Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Master of Public Health Program at Des Moines University seeks to maintain a pool of qualified individuals to teach potential online-learning courses in MPH and/or MHA curricula. DMU welcomes candidates to apply at any time for these Part-time No Benefit Contract Faculty opportunities. Individuals with experience and appropriate degrees in instructional areas offered are encouraged to apply. Candidates may be chosen from the Adjunct Pool to participate in additional application/selection processes as specific needs arise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Teaching online learning courses including the following responsibilities associated with these courses:
    • Develop course syllabus, learning activities, and assessments and ensuring assessments align with public health competencies
    • Conducing all online / virtual class meetings
    • Assigning and evaluating written work, projects, and exams that align with course and program learning objectives
    • Ensuring availability to students for "office hours"
    • Assigning and submitting student grades to the Office of the Registrar by the deadline
  • Participate in and successfully complete Learning Management system training
  • Participate in course evaluation efforts for continuous quality improvement
  • Participate in and successfully complete all University required training including, but not limited to discrimination/harassment and code of conduct.
  • Performs other job related duties and special projects as assigned.


Qualifications/Education and/or Experience:

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Master's or Doctoral Degree in public health or health administration or closely related discipline relevant to the department's academic curricula.
  • Three years of previous online teaching experience preferred


ESSENTIAL SKILLS
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively across disciplines with administrators, faculty and/or students.
  • Commitment to delivering rigorous graduate level learning experiences
  • Demonstration of previous successful teaching experience
  • Familiarity with online Learning Management System (familiarity with Desire 2 Learn preferred)
  • Excellent communications and active listening skills, including but not limited to, able to convey and receive verbal and written information effectively and efficiently as appropriate for the needs of the audience.
  • Excellent PC Knowledge and skills; proficient with MS PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusivity.
